What's your name and job?

Andy G.

Mortarman (KSARNG)

Police Officer (Wichita Police Dept)

What does a day in your life look like?

(Walk us through your normal day)

Currently Deployed

A day in the life here typically starts with PT in the morning then various training on either mortar systems or infantry tanks.

A day back home is similar, I usually spend the morning working out then followed by time with my kids. After that I go to work and patrol my beat, serving and protecting the people of Wichita.

What makes you get up in the morning?

The biggest motivation is my family. I always want my boys to be proud of me. To show them what it means to give back to and serve your community and country. Knowing that I'm doing my part to help better the town we live in.

What do you love about your profession?

I love that everyday is different and that I'm making a positive impact on people and helping them through what might be the worst day of their lives.

What lead you to become a soldier, officer, etc?

I felt a need to give back. A large portion of my early 20's was spent living for myself. I felt that joining the Army and becoming an Officer were the best ways to give back and serve.

What are the most challenging aspects of your profession?

The most challenging aspects of my profession currently is being away from my family. Back home I would say that hardest thing is having to overcome certain people's preconceived notions of me because I'm a police officer. I'm big believer in community policing and use those opportunities to show people that I'm human too and hopefully help them get over any negative interactions they've had in their past from other law enforcement.

What do you love to do in your free time?

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids. I enjoy training and bettering myself as a soldier and officer, whether it be getting range time, working out, or studying.

What are your thoughts on the HHV ATE Helmet

I was recommended my HHV ATE Helmet by my squad leader and platoon. My platoon leader did several years in Special Operations and explained to us why the helmet was a superior improvement to our standard issue ACH's. The high cut allows us to use electronic ear pro when hanging rounds and it's better ballistics give me more confidence in whatever life might throw at us. This is why most of chose to purchase one.
