Tactical helmets…Not just for combat

Many…Okay…most of us have almost two decades worth of Pelican cases stacked somewhere in or around our houses. If you have kept up with the purging of gear over the years, we commend you! Next time your OCD runs that rampit…we could use some help in chucking a good 90% of the stuff that was once cool that still collects dust.  As you open these cases, they can tell a story about what you have done or in some cases, where you’ve been. Much like ribbon bars on our uniforms, the story of our gear can be told by camouflage,...

Evolution of the Combat Helmet

Where do we start? From the early days of combat operations to where we are now...The leather triangle hats that good ole George Washington and his boys wore when they put boot to ass to win our freedom; or the wool covers worn by both union and rebel sons of our civil war. If you’re new, and you have merely heard the term NIJ and equate it to protective equipment, the NIJ is the National Institute of Justice; commissioned by the DoJ to establish a standard for specific, hard end use of equipment that keeps people alive… (this is a very cliff noted description)! This article is not about the NIJ, rather than the standards that Hard Head Veterans and all other companies...

More to Combat Helmets Than Gucci Looks

More to Combat Helmets Than Gucci Looks

When you’re in the business of safety equipment; testing, evaluation and quality control are specific areas where corners cannot be cut. Companies who manufacture head protection; specifically ballistic protection, adhering to standards are exponentially more important than how cool, light or other adjectives used to create a selling point to  the end user. Warfighters helmets are critical to his or her everyday operational readiness; in fact, detrimental if quality protection isn’t used or worn.  Back in the old days of OIF I-III, everywhere we looked, civilian and Military operators had k-pots on or strapped to them one way or the...
