Face shield

Excellent quality. Really liked that you get a full face shield an a "shooter" face shield. Very reasonably priced, fast shipping.

Much needed gear.

I really like protecting my face and this is a great piece of gear for that. Very easy to install. Also doubles as a sneeze guard.

Can transform a bump helmet into an all-in-one solution

Recently I purchased the HHV bump helmet and attached some Peltors and other accessories for training and potentially home defense. Adding the face shield, especially the half-face shooter's shield, means I now have a complete solution with head / ear / eye protection in one single unit.

Bump helmet with shield.

The helmet is above expectations. The circle Velcro pad attachments, don’t stick well enough for switching pads often for multiple users. The craftsman’s ship is top notch. I would like to see a bump style Mitch for better ear protection when coms is not needed.

The face shield is lightweight and does it’s job. However is scratched fairly easily with frequent cell extractions.

Over all this product is a great piece of kit. It is what I am looking for and the costumer service is great.

Installing the face shield is problematic

The M/L ATE helmet and the face shield should go together easily because you have the dimensions on the helmet and the face shield is one size. Surely you can provide instructions as to how to install?? Instead the customer receives the helmet and shield and a bag of hardware and that's it. No how-to instructions. You will point to the video on line, but if you listen carefully you will find that the installer is working with the Large helmet. Nowhere do you tell the customer which slots to engage the arm bolts into for the M/L size helmet. I (of course) followed the video and found after fiddling with it for a while that the front slot (used by the video guy) does not work for the M/L. (ends up with a huge gap between the shield and the helmet at the top which does not look like any of the pictures online). SO I had to remove it and move back to the next slot on the helmet. Even this was not a simple fitting job. I ended up with a gap at the sides that appeared to need another spacer and therefore longer bolts. At this point (after a day of trial and error) I contacted the support at HardHead, who asked that I send in photos and a video of my problem. I did that and simply got a an email sending me another hardware package. I asked if they had sent longer bolts only to be told that "we don't have longer bolts". "Either try to bend the arms or get bolts from your local hardware store". At this point I realized that the pieces do not fit closely and that I would have to force the arm closer to the helmet and install the bolts with the full set of spacer bars. I did this with a channel lock wrench to hold together the arm and the helmet, with the bolts at the limit of the thread so as to engage the T-nut. Then I was able clamp the final arm of the face shield to the helmet so that I could tighten the bolts with T-nut engaged in the slot. Phew! What a job. It is now installed although I am not too happy with the way the shield does not completely pass over the HHV center bracket in front. So the shield is a little off vertical when down. However it seems to work OK and I do not want to try any more installation adjustments.
This helmet and face shield are for our handicapped son who is susceptible to falls. After all this I like the product which seems sturdy enough. We are yet to fit him with it so will report on the after-installation status. Bottom line, I echo the comments of a previous reviewer. I was hoping and expecting (for the price) a real quality installation only to be really frustrated with the whole process.
It would seem to be a no-brainer that HHD should install the face shield when ordered with the helmet. When not, proper written and diagrammatic instructions are a must. Seems like you have a good product but your communications are making it problematic. I can show photos if needed. HHD has them also.

Hi Frank, really apologize for the install hassle. We will work on getting written instructions included for these as you are right! Also, I think part of the issue is these fit best with our ballistic helmets instead of the bumps. The shell thickness is enough to make installing on the smaller M/L bump helmet a pain as you found out. Will make this more explicit on the product listing as well. Really appreciate the in-depth feedback as it helps us improve.
