What's your name and job?

Bobbie Smith and I'm an Engineering Technician at NSWC Crane

What does a day in your life look like? (Walk us through your normal day)

A "Normal" day can sometimes be kind of low key and boring and sometimes fast pace and really exciting. I work in the Small Arms Division. Our motto is "Supporting the Warfighter" what we do day in and day out is in support of all the men and women who are out there fighting for our country. We want to make sure they have the best equipment that is available when they need it. So sometimes we are at the range all day shooting anywhere from hundreds to thousands of rounds of ammunition to conduct various testing requirements. Other days I'm back in my office gathering all the data from the testing for test reports.

What makes you get up in the morning?

I love my family, friends, and I love what I get to do at my job.

What do you love about your profession?

I grew up a Navy Brat and have always admired the people who serve. I wasn't able to join the military but being able to work as a DoD civilian gives me the chance to still support the military and work right alongside them. I also enjoy firearms so any day at the range is a good day.

What lead you to become a soldier, officer, etc?

I got into being an engineering technician for the Navy as a civilian through working as a contractor supporting the Navy. As well as my answer to the previous question.

What are the most challenging aspects of your profession?

I feel there are always things that can challenge us to learn more or step up and take on more responsibility but I don't find my job hard I always welcome new challenges.

What do you love to do in your free time?

I love photography, I love to shoot my firearms and compound bow, and I love to watch movies.

What are your thoughts on the HHV ATE Helmet?

I think it is a great product, excellent quality, and great price, especially when compared to other companies offering equally compared products. It is comfortable to wear for long periods of time which is something that I was looking for. I suffer from migraines and the older style of helmets I have had to use were giving me headaches within 20 minutes of having them on. With the HHV helmet and the rail system, I'm able to attach my ear pro which makes it more comfortable and snug fitting. I can also attach my GoPro camera on the front of it so when I'm shooting in my free time I can take videos. It has an excellent warranty with the helmet and I haven't seen any other companies offer a warranty like it. I received my helmet really quickly after ordering it and the customer service was excellent.

Unlike most of my co-workers who see PPE as a pain, I love my PPE and actually get excited about getting new gear to use and know the importance of having it on while testing firearms.

Thanks for an awesome and affordable product that can save lives.

Bobbie Smith
